Parents arrive at Tall Oaks with their children and gather together at the playground. We begin the day with our Walk of Gratitude to the Prayer Garden in the Forest. We start our walk with a few moments of silence, so we have time to ground ourselves in our place, to know it well, to notice changes in it and ourselves, and to open our hearts to gratitude for what this day and the Earth is giving us.
When we return from our walk, the children transition to Snack and listen to Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and Fables from around the World. After this, students participate in workshops in our curriculum. This includes writing their own stories, solving math puzzles, making beeswax crayons, drawing flowers from our forest in their nature journals, or making rope from local plants.
Students get a break between workshops with unstructured Free Play. After the second workshop, students gather together to eat lunch. When lunch is over, the children will enjoy another time of Free Play. At day’s end, the students will take time to clean up our space and get ready for Pick Up.
